Tinago Falls: The Hidden Beauty of Iligan

When I was young, I only hear those wonderful stories about Tinago Falls. My aunt is a professional runner and she joins triathlons a lot. In one of her stories, she said that they have to swim across Tinago Falls. Back then, there is a zoo at the entrance of the forest before you get to witness the magnificence of Tinago Falls.

Having studied in Iligan City, it's ironic for students like me to not experience a lot of these waterfalls in a city that calls itself the "City of Waterfalls" in the Philippines. Yes, it's true. Even residents here in Iligan City barely witness the beauty of these falls. And it's because of different reasons. But one of which is the inaccessibility of the areas and the fact that you have to spare real effort, time and money to get to these falls.

Yet to all the tourists out there, the waterfalls here in Iligan City is just one of the best. All the sweat and effort get paid off by the beauty of the natural wonder that you can't experience in other places. This is uniquely the Iligan experience.

In this feature, Tinago Falls is just one of the best waterfalls to name. Iligan is home to 23 major waterfalls and  Tinago is one of the best here. You have to take about 400 steps down to get to the basin of the falls. And once you reach the bottom, you'll just get enthralled by the wonderful creation. You wouldn't even think it's possible to find in the heart of the forest.

I can't describe it further. Tinago is such one experience. And if you're into waterfalling or diving into the best tourist spots in the Philippines, this is one place to break free.

Tinago Falls is also featured in my all about Iligan blog post "Threading Pieces of Admiration: The Fortress City of Mindanao", which talks about the culture, tourist spots, people, industries and everything about Iligan City.
